Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo Promotes Achievements and Seeks Re-election in Shai Osudoku Constituency

Hon. Linda Obenewa Akweley Ocloo, the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku constituency, has launched her campaign to seek re-election as the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency. She is facing stiff competition from her predecessor, David Tetteh Assumeng, who served as MP for the constituency from 2005 to January 6, 2017, and Dr. Micheal Kpessah White, a Senior Lecturer and former Executive Director of the National Service Scheme and a former presidential staffer who lost in previous primaries.

Hon. Linda Ocloo, hailed by the minority leadership as one of the few distinguished female lawmakers in the 8th Parliament of Ghana, is confident in her bid for a third term, citing her achievements in health, education, rural development, and job creation as evidence of her successful stewardship. She highlighted her efforts in providing classroom infrastructure to schools, supporting health facilities, connecting communities to the national grid through rural electrification projects, and providing academic year fee-paying interventions for tertiary students. She also mentioned her efforts in water and sanitation, including extending water facilities to communities, sinking boreholes in communities without access to the services of the Ghana Water Company Limited, and lobbying for Water Closet facilities in the constituency.

In terms of job creation and opportunities, Hon. Linda Ocloo mentioned her efforts in lobbying for the intake of party members into the security services, including the Prisons, Police, Military, and Immigration Services. She acknowledged the challenges in the constituency and pledged to continue using her share of the common fund to address them, while urging the central government to take up capital-intensive projects such as road construction. She also thanked Golden Exotics Limited for completing the first phase of spot improvement and expressed her intention to partner with them to complete the other phases.

Hon. Linda Ocloo also mentioned her plans for economic empowerment, including reconstructing the Doryumu Market, completing the Abuviekpong Classroom Block Project, and lobbying the District Assembly to work on the Tokpo CHPS Compound. She highlighted her efforts in providing a befitting constituency office for the party to facilitate administrative activities.

She charged party members and delegates to continue having confidence in her and expressed hope that under the next John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government, more developmental projects will be executed in the constituency. Shai Osudoku constituency is considered a stronghold of the NDC, and Hon. Linda Ocloo won the 2020 parliamentary election with 67.16% of the votes. Her campaign for re-election will likely focus on her achievements, plans for development, and her commitment to serving the people of Shai Osudoku constituency. The upcoming NDC primaries in the constituency are expected to be closely contested, with each candidate vying for the support of party members and delegates. The outcome of the primaries will determine who will represent the NDC in the 2024 parliamentary elections in the constituency.
